email comment notification stopped working

  Mail notifications of new comments in moderation stopped
  (also reported by another user in a more complex issue/ WP forum)

  Issue:

  since today all new (legitimate) comments in my moderation queue no longer
  induce mail notification to be sent to my registered mail address

  I checked the email account (working and busy receiving other mail) and the trash:
  WP is no longer sending mail notification for comments waiting to be approved.

  My WordPress settings (Options-discussion):
  E-mail me whenever:

  * Anyone posts a comment
  * A comment is held for moderation

  both checked and unchanged.

  I noticed that I had only gotten one email notification over night when there were multiple comments for me to approve. It wasn’t in my spam. So I guess it’s just floating away through cyberspace.

  How am i going to answer the questions posed by visitors if i am not informed they have made them? :-(
