Email & contact form test failed
-
I recently bought a domain through WordPress. com. I forwarded emails through the Store–My Domains tab. I got the confirmation email and approved it, but neither emails nor the contact form seem to work from the blog. I tried a second email address but that doesn’t seem to work either.
What am I missing?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hmm. A couple of the tests from one of my contact forms came through, but to the wrong forwarding address. Does it take awhile for the change of forwarding address to take effect?
-
I don’t know how much you know about Domain Names and the Domain Name System (DNS) so excuse me if you know this stuff already. The DNS contain records for mail servers called MX records. There will be ones for your mail servers. DNS records can take up to 2 days, even more, to propagate around the globe. I can’t tell if this is your issue from your description, but I would give it a couple of days.
Cheers,
Cliff

Cliff, thanks for responding.
I know nuffink about DNS :) so all info is gratefully accepted. I had the site private since it was still under construction until yesterday, so maybe that was part of the delay. Both contact forms are working today.
The email I set up through the domain tab still isn’t working, but I’ll give that another day and hopefully it will fix itself.

Contact forms are working but email still isn’t forwarding. I get the confirmation emails and approve them, then… nothing. Any ideas?

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Hi timethief. Yup, I’m subscribed. Thank you!
I set up the original email forwarding a couple nights ago and added a second one today to try that instead.

@apetcher
I have no assistance I can offer with regard to image editing and the thread is already tagged for Staff here > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/image-resize-1?replies=15@jennadalesauthor
You’re welcome. -
Never heard back from anybody about emails going astray. I bought the domain through WordPress so I’m hoping somebody has a fix since it’s all in-house. Thanks.
-
@petcher. That’s what we get for not paying more :) Overall, though, WP works quite nicely. This is really the first time I’ve had a problem I couldn’t muddle through. I’m just getting desperate because I want to show off my site, but not before people have a way to tell me how purty I am!

@jennadalesauthor
Your thread is tagged for Staff support. If others top posting into it then the timestamps will not keep moving forward so it takes longer to get Staff help.@jessaslade
You do not appear to have a domain hence your issue is not the same “forwarded emails through the Store–My Domains tab” issue that jennadalesauthor is reporting. Please click this link and start your own thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1 -
@vanndigisubmissions
Your thread which was only created today on April 1st is here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/no-e-mail-notifications?replies=2 Please return to it and post only there. Posting here only means you have moved the timestamp forward and that means it will take longer for jennadalesauthor who created this thread on a different issue than yours is to get Staff help. -
Timethief. Sorry, I’m logged in as the wrong version of me. Jenna Dales is my alter ego; she’s the one causing me such problems with her email. I will stop posting here so somebody can help me. Thanks again.
-
Woo hoo! It works! I don’t know what you did, but thank you, whoever fixed it! I’ll mark this issue as resolved.
Thanks again,
Jessa/Jenna -

It looks like your Email Forwarding is setup correctly. Can you confirm that you are not sending the test email from the same address that you’re forwarding the email to? So, for example, if you have your email forwarding set to forward to (email visible only to moderators and staff), you cannot also send the test email from (email visible only to moderators and staff). Does that make sense?
-
Hi Jeremy. Yes, it makes sense, and yes, it is working correctly now. I’m pretty sure it was user error. *blushing* But thank you for checking on the problem!
-
Not a problem! I’m glad we were able to figure this out. Let me know if you need anything else!
