can we get a plugin to create a post that goes out to an email following?
then links them back to our blogs?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you add the Follow Blog Widget – then your readers can receive your posts via email. Once you post on your site, an email of that post will be sent directly to your followers with a link that will take them back to your site.

You can also go to Settings -> Reading -> Follower Settings -> Blog Follow email text
Where you can modify the notification email followers will receive after they follow your blog. This notification email will also link them back to your blog.

It’s important to know that here at wordpress.COM subscribers control their own subscriptions and their delivery preferences for receiving your posts. You cannot subscribe for them. You cannot upload a mass mail email follow list.

You cannot use the MailChimp embed code and cannot create a pop-up on a wordpress.COM hosted blog. You can create a sign up page on MailChimp only and provide a link to it on your site.

If you want to use MailChimp with your WordPress.com site here’s the info from MailChimp Support http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/how-to-add-a-mailchimp-signup-form-to-your-wordpress-blog

The same is true of Aweber. You can create a sign up page on Aweber only and provide a link to it on your site.

I think that is so dumb. I tried using the mailchimp embed codes, too. But it was useless. Why is it so difficult to just have a simple box where they can put in their email addresses?

If someone is trying to start a business, like me, then the business owner wants to send marketing emails to their current and potential clients/customers. It’s silly to just have an email sent whenever the site updates. That doesn’t really do any good.

    Hi cdean89,

I just typed modlook into the sidebar tags so that we can get some help from a Moderator/Staff member. It’s the quickest way to get a Moderator/Staff to reply to your question.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

You’ll be notified when a Moderator/Staff member replies, if you subscribe to the topic in the sidebar. We’ll just have to be patient while waiting.

    Yep, I’m subscribed.

I found a temporary fix for what I was wanting (a box on the home page where someone can type in their email address for a newsletter and click a “submit” button).

I opened up ‘Dashboard’ and started a new ‘Page’. I then clicked ‘Add Contact Form’, customized it the way I wanted, and clicked ‘Add this form to my post’.

You then can see the coding in the post. So I copied/pasted it to my home page. I wish I could modify the size a bit, but at least it’s something for right now. It’s the closest thing to Mailchimp’s embed code type thing that I could figure out to do.

    That’s great cdean89. I’m glad you could find a solution. :)

  • Hi there,

I just want to confirm that the information given to you by Volunteers in this thread has been accurate. The only integrated subscription options on WordPress.com are the follow blog widget and shortcode that you can add to your site, and the follow buttons that appear automatically to all logged in, and if you enable it logged out users.

If you want to link to another service like MailChimp for followers to subscribe there you can do so, but it’s not possible to embed other subscription forms on a WordPress.com site due to the code restrictions here – the HTML code used to create forms can be abused to introduce malware into the system, so we automatically strip out that type of code if someone tries to add it.

So, the only way to use MailChimp is to add a link on your site using a text or image widget, linking to the signup form on the MailChimp website. You can add the link to a Subscribe button you can upload to your media library, or even a screenshot of the MailChimp form, so it looks as if the form is on your site.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/create-your-own-widget/

You can also collect reader email addresses via a contact form as you have done, but please note that data submitted via a contact form is not secure, so you should never collect sensitive data like telephone numbers or payment information that way.

Also note that several countries have very strict laws about collection of contact information and adding people to mailing lists, so please make sure you comply to local laws if you want to do this.

the business owner wants to send marketing emails to their current and potential clients/customers. It’s silly to just have an email sent whenever the site updates.

if I subscribe to a blog the ONLY email I want is for a new Post – if a blog owner sends me spam by harvesting my email off the subscribe list I will do two things 1) unsubscribe from the scam blog 2) Never ever use your services – no matter how convenient you might be or good you might be – spam is spam and that is what you are asking to do

  • Unknown's avatar

Auxclass – that is absolutely not what I am asking to do.

What I am asking to do is have a box where the site visitor clearly understands why they are submitting their email address (for newsletter emails/updates), which satisfies federal law for email marketing.

But thank you for accusing me of being a spammer. :-)
