Email followers not showing up in stats

    I keep getting email notifications that people are following my blog via email, but when I check the list of people that are following the blog via email, it’s totally empty.

    I’ve had at least 10 people sign up to email follow the blog (based on the number of emails I’ve received), I was just wondering if there was a reason they weren’t showing up in the stats.

    Hi –

    These aren’t real followers, they are spam. Our system automatically deletes them from before they reach the “followers” count.

    Wait, really?
    I signed up via the little sign up by email widget and I did get an email the next time I posted something, but I didn’t show up in my email follower list? How exactly does the widget work then?

    Hi @afriedlander,

    For a little context, we’ve had some “outlook” spammers following blogs. The system removes the spammers, but you have been getting the new follower notification. We’re working to prevent the spam in the first place.

    Normally, though, someone will try to sign up by email, then they get a message from us asking to confirm their subscription. Once they confirm, then they will show up as a new email follower.
