email forward not working

    I set up an email address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) to forward to my regular mail. The verification came through just fine but my test emails are not arriving.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    HI Sharon,

    Your email forwarding appears to be configured correctly and I’m not seeing any errors in the email system during the time it was being setup.

    How quickly did you send the test emails?

    Email records can sometimes take several hours to reflect changes. And if you sent a test email quickly after setting up the forward it may have just not be all ready yet.

    Did your test emails end up in your spam folder in gmail? Did this happen on both your email forwards?

    For good measure, would you please send another batch of test emails and let me know if they still don’t get through?

    I thought that might be the case so I sent a second and third test in the afternoon and evening. Just sent a 4th test today and still nothing is coming through. Nothing in spam.

    Hi Sharon,

    I’ve a tried a reset for these email forwards — would you mind re-verifying the emails and testing again?

    Normally not a fan of ‘turn it off, turn it on again’ but it seems like a good first step here. :)

    Yup, saw those, did it. Tested again. Nothing yet.

    Hi Sharon,

    Are you sending the test email from the same gmail account the emails should forward to?

    If that’s the case, this is why aren’t arriving. Gmail “sees” your own inbox as the originating address and sort of cancels them out.

    Can you try testing the forwarding from another email address?

    Let me know if emailing from a different account doesn’t work and I’ll investigate further!

    So – using gmail I tried to add the email so I can generate correspondence coming from it – I got the following error message ” Your other email provider is responding too slowly. Please try again later, or contact the administrator of your other domain for further information.”

    Hi Sharon,

    GMail works differently than some email providers in that it won’t allow you to send an email “From” an alias of another email. That’s the error you’re receiving.

    To use GMail but send “From” an email address with your custom domain, you’ll need to use a full email provider for the email address, and then setup the GMail “From” settings to that provider.
