Email forwarding

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently linked my WP blog to a domain I own (11thdimensionpress.com). The email forwarding I had setup with my former DNS no longer works but when I tried configuring the forwarding through WP I recieve the following message:

This domain currently has custom mail servers defined in its DNS settings. This means that WordPress.com Email Forwarding is not available for this domain, and that you should manage your email with your email provider.

The email servers for this domain are:

    eforward1.registrar-servers.com.
    eforward2.registrar-servers.com.
    eforward3.registrar-servers.com.
    eforward4.registrar-servers.com.
    eforward5.registrar-servers.com.

SO here’s the deal, on the WP side it says I have to config the forwarding on the email provider side (!? I never setup an email host, the addresses were always forwarded), on the WP side I’m told I can’t config them there either. How can I arrange it so WP handles the email forwarding for my domain?

    Thanks–Darryl

    Hi Darryl!

To setup email forwarding, you’ll need to remove the MX records that are currently in place at WordPress.com. To do that, follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to your Domains page here:

      https://11thdimensionpress.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

    2. From that page, click “Edit Domain”
    3. From the next page, click “Edit DNS”
    4. Hover your mouse over the bottom five MX records. When you do that, you should see a trash icon on the right-hand side of the line for each record. Click that icon to delete each of the five records.
    5. After you’ve removed the records, you should be able to setup the email forwarding option following the instructions here:

      http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding

Let me know if you run into any trouble!
