Email forwarding

We recently mapped a domain (cornwallsar.org.uk) to cornwallsrt.wordpress.com but now seem unable to set up email forwarding:

“This domain currently has custom mail servers defined in its DNS settings. This means that WordPress.com Email Forwarding is not available for this domain, and that you should manage your email with your email provider.”

Do we need additional settings to be updated as well as the name servers, or do we need to edit anything else like MX records in the DNS settings?

    Hi Mark,

MX records are the part of DNS settings that handle email. The DNS records required varies among each email provider, but usually entails one or two MX records. If you do not have service with an email provider, MX records are not required.

I see you currently have an MX record in your custom DNS settings here on WordPress. If you are not using a full service email provider, you can delete this MX record and that will allow you to enable the Email Forwarding feature.

To delete the MX record, go to your My Domains page, click “Edit Domain” then click the “Edit DNS” tab. Hover over the MX record, then click on the trash bin that appears to the right of it.

All settings appear to be configured correctly other than MX record. The name servers are correctly pointing to WordPress and your site loads fine. The only potential change is how you want to handle email.

Let me know if you have further questions, or need help changing the MX record and setting up email forwarding.

    Best,

    -Alex G.
