Email forwarding does not work

    Hi,
    I have set up email forwarding for my blog as instructed, the system confirms that it has been added, but… I receive no emails at all in the account I am forwarding the WP-emails to. Test messages that my husband or my son send, simply never arrive anywhere.
    What can possibly go wrong here??

  • Hi Marianne,
    Have you checked your spam folders of your current email?
    Also please do check if the Forwarding email ID is spelled correctly just to be on the safer side. Also here is a support document on forwarding if you would like to cross check with an example.

    The DNS records for your domain looksfinefrom what I checked. Most likely your current email provider is marking the forwarded mails as spam. Could you please check. BTW who is your existing email service provider (Gmail, Yahoo, Microsoft)?

    Good point, simplysaru, but the junk-box is empty too.
    The email address I put in is correct, I quadruple checked that. Several times :)

    My husband is now seeing a mail delivery error that reads:
    SMTP error from host smtp-fwd.wordpress.com.
    User unknown in virtual alias table.

    To me the looks like the setting that I have done, even though the WP system says it has been confirmed, is not beeing added to the virtual alias table in WP. Is that a system error, or do I need add or change something???

    Oops, no wonder my husband got that message: he made an error in the email address…
    He tried it again, though, this time with the correct address (I checked :) ), and like my son’s email: it simply does not get forwarded, and does not arrive in the forwarding inbox.

    Still desperate…

    This looks like a system error. It could be possible that the forwarding email associations weren’t created on the server when you firs created it.
    Could you please delete this forwarding and create the forwarding again. Let’s see if this fixes it, else we shall ask one of the staff to look at what is happening on the server end.

  • Did your husband or son get any error mails when they sent the email to the correct address?

    This is exactly what we’ve done, to no avail…..
    No error mails are received either!

    I have tagged this thread for the staff to look at. Meanwhile please leave the settings as is. Let’s wait for the staff to have a look at it and get back.

    Ok, thanks for letting me know.

    You do get other emails at the address (email visible only to moderators and staff) correct? (only you and WordPress.com staff can see the email addresses posted here).

    Do you have another email address we could try forwarding to, just so we can see where the problem is occurring?

    Yes, otehr emails arive at my inbox perfectly well, it’s just the forwards from WP that disappear. The other email address you could use, is (email visible only to moderators and staff), let’s see if that solves it.

    Do you think it may be because of the fact that my email account at WP is (email visible only to moderators and staff), instead of (email visible only to moderators and staff)??
    I’m just wondering what the issue is: does WP have a problem forwarding from (email visible only to moderators and staff) to my @casema account, or does it not even receive emails at all…??

    I checked on our side and emails are being successfully sent to (email visible only to moderators and staff). That means there is most likely something on the (email visible only to moderators and staff) side of the equation that is causing problems.

    Please try adding (email visible only to moderators and staff) to her contacts and see if that helps. You will also want to check with your email provider to make sure there isn’t a problem with forwarded emails.

    One other note. You’ve set your admin email on your site to (email visible only to moderators and staff). Since this is a forwarded address, rather than a full email account, that may create problems for you later if you ever need to use the email address to recover your account. It would be much better to have the email address connected to your WordPress account be your actual address.

    Thank you so much for all the trouble you’re going through ….. I’ve followed your advice – makes no change.
    Also, I’ve gone back in my history and it seems that I’ve not received any mail on my wordpress email address since the end of February last? I know for sure I’ve not made any changes that would justify or explain this ….
    I’ve tried to do what you’re suggesting, and maybe it’s because I’m formerly blond, but I can’t find the setting where I would have to adjust this. Am I correct in assuming there is no “inbox” in wordpress where I can retrieve my wp-mails? They’re immediately forwarded to my other email?
    Your help is very much appreciated – thanks again!

    That is true. You haven’t created a new email box. An email forward just means that if someone sends you an email to (email visible only to moderators and staff) it should be delivered to (email visible only to moderators and staff).

    It would be useful to test this with a completely different email provider.

    Could you create a free Gmail account so we can see if we can get email messages to forward to that address correctly? You can do that from here.

    If you already have a gmail account we can try forwarding your email to that account.
