Email Forwarding with Gmail: need SMTP login

I have had email forwarding to my gmail account configured on my WordPress custom domain for years ((email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)) and an alias configured in gmail so I can send mail as My Name ((email visible only to moderators and staff)).

Now I need to change the name that appears as the From line (i.e. New Name ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). However, in order to change this setting as part of my gmail alias, I’m required to enter a login for WordPress’s SMTP server. The form auto-populates with the server name smtp-fwd.wordpress.com and the username with ‘info’, but I can’t find any way to know what password I have to use.

Removing email forwarding from WordPress and then setting it up again doesn’t solve this problem, nor can I create a new alias that is associated with (email visible only to moderators and staff) – that requires the same info. Trying to use gmail’s own smtp server to send mail using (email visible only to moderators and staff) also fails to authenticate.

I know it is possible to create a gmail alias that works properly with my WordPress domain email forwarding, since I did it when I first set up email forwarding, but it’s been a long time and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get it to work properly. All I want to do is change the display name.

    Thank you for any help!

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

    Hey there,

    Many thanks for reaching out!

To check, it sounds like you’re looking to change the display name of the email alias – is that correct? The reason why I ask is because, I don’t think that’s possible and WordPress.com afford making changes to email forwarding utilising SMTP.

Email forwarding, and editing an Alias can work for a time, but email hosting can offer more of that functionality you may need.

Out of curiosity – why are you looking to make this change? Is there something you’d like to improve?

    Looking forward to hearing more!
