Email forwarding/aliases
-
I’ve recently moved our web site from another provider to WordPress and am wondering whether it is also possible to move the email aliases we had, e.g., (email visible only to moderators and staff). I can’t find any reference to whether WordPress provides email aliases.
At the moment the email aliases do not appear to be working, although I’ve set up MX records in Settings -> Domains , as per the following:
MX 10 NS1.WEBCITY.COM.AU.
MX 20 NS2.WEBCITY.COM.AU.Ideally I’d like to just move the aliases to WordPress so that we can stop managing and paying for the other service.
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks,
David Wanless.

Have you read the support documentation? http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/

Dear timethief,
Yes, I’ve read that and various other pieces of documentation, and searched through the knowledgebase. I still can’t see what I’m doing wrong.
I guess since that documentation you refer to suggests using google apps that wordpress doesn’t natively offer email aliases. Is that your understanding?
My immediate priority would be to get the email messages going through to our old provider. I’ve contacted the support team there and as a result added an A record to wordpress’s DNS settings. My settings are now
MX 10 NS1.WEBCITY.COM.AU.
MX 20 NS2.WEBCITY.COM.AU.
A MAIL 203.28.48.5
but I still get no error and no successful emails. Any ideas? Thanks for your suggestion,
David.

WordPress.com does not offer any e-mail service. They have worked with Google to make is “easier” to use the Google email stuff. When I moved onto WordPress.com I kept my email at my old host, yes I do pay for that but I struggled with Google and I also wanted to keep my old email system.
The alias would be part of your email provider, however I have not ever tried any of the alias stuff and use just plain generic email stuff so I can’t be of much help other than to suggest you ask your email provider if they have any ideas. You could also ask the staff here and see if they have any suggestion, they were helpful when I had email trouble with my move. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

It’s all working now. The A record was fine. The MX records needed to point to the A record.
So, now I have:
A MAIL 203.28.48.5
MX 10 MAIL.FOLKTAS.ORGThanks to those who helped.
