Email from ICANN not arriving

  • Unknown's avatar

I am being asked to respond to the ICANN email to verify my domain email address or else your domain will stop working. But the ICANN email never arrives. I use Gmail. Is it possible that Gmail is blocking this, as a way to prevent me from renewing my domain?

I have checked my spam/junk folder and all my other folders and tabs. There is no email from ICANN. How do I fix this?

  • Hey there,

It is very unlikely that Google would block these emails, and if they did you would find them in the Spam/Junk folders. I have just manually sent the ICANN email again, so you can keep an eye out for it.

I also recommend checking to make sure that the contact information for your domain is accurate, as the email will be sent to the domain contact email and not your account email. You can check this by visiting Upgrades > Domains. Then select your domain and check the information listed under Contact information.

    Hope this helps!

@staff-dragon it appears that you are correct, that the email address associated with my domain was an old address and different from my account email. I am fixing that. Thank you.

That said, it seems illogical to have domain email independent of my account email. But now I know.

  • Hey there,

Glad to hear that that this worked! The email is sent to your domain contact information in order to verify that the domain contact is valid. Sending the email to your account email would not validate your domain contact information, only your account contact information.

Since this is a requirement by ICANN and not WordPress.com, the domain information itself is what is important. You can learn more about this process here.

    Hope this helps!
