Email from (email visible only to moderators and staff)

I rec’d an email from the above address today. When I hover over “WordPress” in the “Sent by” field, this is the address provided.

Subject line reads “[RevTrev.com] Your username and password”

Following is the body of the email:
    [Private details redacted by staff]
    http://revtrev.com/wp-login.php

I did not request help with my username and/or password, and assume this is a phishing expedition.

If it is otherwise, please advise.

    Hi Sherrey,

The site revtrev.com is a self-hosted WordPress site using the free software from WordPress.org. Sites like that are completely separate from WordPress.com — they aren’t hosted here, and the username and password on self-hosted sites is separate from your WordPress.com account details. I want to assure you that the email you received has no impact on your WordPress.com account or login details.

That email looks like the usual email that self-hosted WordPress sites send out when you set up a new account on the site. (If you created an account at revtrev.com, or someone created one for you, you’d receive an email like that with your login details for that specific site.)

However, if you’re concerned that this email was not legitimate, I’d recommend contacting that site’s hosting company about your concerns:

    I hope this helps!

Hi Rachel and thanks for the explanation. Makes perfect sense to me. I have one blog on .org and the other on .com, so I’m always hopping back and forth. About to make the one on .com inactive, so wanted to be sure there was nothing wrong before I do. I’ll check with the hosting company to be doubly sure I know what’s going on. :)
