Email Hosting Redirection

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello there.

I currently have email hosting with crazy domains. I am going to become a premium member of your site with sound check template.

    Only two questions:
    1. Can I set the website up as a .wordpress and change it later? I own threetreetown.com but will redirect once site is all built.

    2. When I changed the name servers from crazy domains for the domain hosting , I lost my email hosting? Is there a way I can keep my emails working?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

You absolutely can set it up just as a normal [blogname].wordpress.com site and add a domain name at any time later. People do that all the time. You can in fact set your entire site up how you like it using threetownband.wordpress.com and then once it is how you like it, switch your domain’s nameservers over to ours and make your WordPress.com site go live. All that is involved is changing the nameservers and updating which domain is primary in your Dashboard (this help article will explain the latter of those two: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/domains-settings/#changing-your-primary-domain)

In regards to the second question, you can do all of the setup for your email in advance as well. Since you already have setup domain mapping, there will be an entry in your Dashboard for your domain under Store >> My Domains. Click on Edit Domain and then Edit DNS. You’ll need to get from Crazy Domains your full DNS settings to make the mail work correctly (so not just the MX record but any accompanying A record as well . . . they should know what you need). Go ahead and get those entered in on that screen. They won’t do anything until you change your domain’s nameservers, but once you do your email will almost seamlessly switch over (there may be a small blip, but it should be minor).

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Hello mate.

Thanks so much for your help has been great.
I did however accidentally delete the DNS records wordpress already had in place.

I probably should have added DNS records not edited the default one!
You wouldn’t know how to re enter the default ones would you?
    Cheers.

I just took a quick look at your DNS and it looks like it is mostly set up correctly if you want your site pointed towards some other hosting, with your mail being handled by someone else. You are still missing an A record for mail.threetreetown.com (so the IP address of your mail provider’s server). If they could provide you that, then you should be good to go!

    Hello mate,

Thanks so much for all this help!
I will put a huge thank you up for you on the website once it’s across!

So just to be sure, everything looks set up on the DNS side?
I have a ticket open to the staff, but I’ll shut it down if you’re fine with it.

I was confident by editing the default records I had buggered it. (The tutorial says leave them!). Approaching the 72 hour mark! So just wanted your opinion?

I’ll get the A Record sorted for the mail, such a great help!
    Thanks again!

Well, to verify, do you want your actual site to be hosted here with us, or to be hosted somewhere else?

Right now it’s set to be hosted with some other company (it looks like the same company that you’ve set as your mail server). If that’s your plan, then it should work great.

If you’d prefer to keep your domain pulling up your site here with us, then I can fix it for you, no problem!

    Hello there,

I have the domain registered (threetreetown.com) with cray domains.
But I have the premium pack (soundcheck) and the website at. Threetreetown.wordpress.com.

I want it hosted here, love your guys work.
Just want to be able to put in http://www.threetreetown.com and have that show the website I have on wordpress.

    I hope that makes sense?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yep, it makes total sense! And thank you very much!

I went ahead and fixed the DNS for your site. So now it should work so that when someone goes to threetreetown.com, it’ll pull up the contents from threetreetown.wordpress.com. When someone emails you at your email address @threetreetown.com, then it should go to wherever you have contracted for your email.

It all looks setup to me. As long as they gave you the correct settings and they set things up right on their end, you should be good to go! And your site should start coming back up correctly here any minute. :)
