Email notices of new comments on my blog carry wrong info

  • Unknown's avatar

Among my readers, many subscribe to new comments posted on my blog. Some are receiving wrong information. This is an example:

“An odd thing….the last several notices I have received for additional comments on your past couple of postings have come from “Human Relationships” rather than “The Task at Hand”.

I haven’t changed a thing – no adjustment of settings, etc. And many people are no longer receiving email notices of comments at all.

Is there any information about this floating around? Any suggestions about what the cause might be?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just found out that some people are getting email notifications of my blog posts with the wrong title, as well. Instead of “The Task at Hand”, the title being used is “Human Relationships”. My blog is NOT called “Human Relationships”.

Some people almost dumped my new posts because of this. I need the correct information in those emails.

    Help!?!

My guess is that Human Relationships is category and not a blog.

I don’t have a clue as to how to how to help you. I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. Note that I think you will need to post a screenshot. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide I linked to and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

I forgot to get ask you to post the Title URL of the exact post that these folks subscribed to. Surely they did not subscribe to receive every comment on every post in the whole blog by subscribing to this link http://shoreacres.wordpress.com/comments/feed/ Or did they?

Hi, TT. I thought about Human Relationships being a category. I used the Omnisearch, thinking I might have used the phrase as a category or tag, but the phrase only appeared in posts and comments.

I also have sent some emails asking if they followed through the “follow button” or the email subscription widget, but I don’t know that yet.

    Thanks!

How about Human Condition? Did you use it as a Category?

  • Unknown's avatar

Here you go. This is one post that was mis-identified:

Autumn Trilogy III – A Season of Unleaving

And, yes! I did use “human condition” as a category on that post.

And no — they didn’t use the RSS. They clicked the box under the comment section to receive new comments on that post I listed above.

I’m not clear on what happened but at least we have given Staff something to work with now. Screenshots would be helpful too.

OK – there are two other posts that use the category “The Human Condition”.

Autumn Trilogy I – Reflected Light

    Summer’s Iconic Sun

The emails that went out for these posts, to at least one reader, cited “The Human Condition” as the title of my blog.

    Thanks for the added information.

One last note. I just got an email from a reader, and he says his notifications of my blog posts definitely are coming in under the title,
    “Human Relationships.”

So, I have no idea where that is coming from. It’s not a tag or category.

    Hi @shoreacres,

I signed up to follow your blog so I can see how the blog post notifications are coming through. Could you please upload a screenshot of a recent comment notification that you received where the title of the blog read “Human Relationships”? Instructions for taking a screenshot can be found here:

    Take a Screenshot

If you could upload the screenshot to your Media Library, I’d love to take a look!

Hi, Jeremy ~ I’d be happy to upload a screenshot, but unfortunately I’ve never gotten one that’s in error, and my readers who received one that was erroneous all have deleted their emails. So, at this point, I guess we’ll just wait.

I post only once a week, so once I’ve posted again, I’ll get in touch with my readers to be sure everything worked as it should. If it didn’t, I’ll get screenshots then. For now, I’ll leave this unresolved, but it can just sit for the time being.

    Many thanks!
