    Sounds like you wanted them to subscribe, not follow – check out what the follow feature does – http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/

    I suggest adding this widget, which will allow your friend to input their email address and receive email notifications : http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

    Hope that helps!

    @mimjulie
    Your subscribers control the frequency of receipt of your posts (instantly, daily, weekly) you don’t control that.

    I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Will you please provide the WordPress.com username for the bloggers who did not receive the emails, or the email addresses for the blogger if he/she does not have a WordPress.com account? The software will redact ie. HIDE the email address so only Staff can see it. After you do that subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    As well as activating the follow blog widget you can do more to accommodate those who want to subscribe.

    If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts go to > Settings > Reading and scroll down to Follower Settings:

    These settings change emails sent from your blog to followers.
    Logged out users __ Show follow button to logged out users.

    Checking this will present a follow button to logged out users in the bottom corner of their screen.

    Find Friends Who Use WordPress > http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/find-friends/

    You can customize the contact form with multiple fields, change the email address where you’ll be notified, and mark feedbacks as spam from your dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

    Hi.

    I’d like to use the follow button to have unregistered users follow my blog, but in the Settings > Reading screen there is no section called “Follower settings”. (“Search Engine Visibility” is the final option in my blog’s screen).

    Also, I do not have a the “follow blog” widget available in my list of widgets, and also it’s not available when I look for a plug-in.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi @mimjulie ,

    I just checked our records, and the email address which you provided is being sent messages from your blog. The most recent being yesterday. They may need to check their spam folder or their social media folder since it is a gmail account, but they definitely are being sent!

    @jimbarron70, which blog are you having issues with?
