Email notification when someone replies to thread?

    Hi,
    I’ve had a bit of a look around and I can see many great and exciting WP.com possibilities, but one big problem. I hate RSS.

    Is there a way to set up my blog so that if someone comments I am notified by email, and if I or anyone else replies to THEIR comment, THEY are also notified by email? Blogger has this function fairly standard… and it is a great way to assist a conversation.

    Many newbies to the internet are too flustered just trying to use their own blog and WP let alone also play around with RSS or bloglines.

    You can have it were your notified by email when someone leaves
    a comment but I don’t think that commenter have that option.
    that don’t have a wp.com account.

    As for the commenter that has a blog/account through
    wordpress.com they have a link in there dashboard called
    “MY Comments” & say you leave a comment on a wp.com blog
    you can see if anyone has replied to your comment on the –
    “My comment” Page.

    Also I would like to mention that wordpress will be having a major
    overhaul next month bringing more possibilities.

    Thank you. I hope they introduce this because I just learned last night that only about 12% of internet users know how to use RSS or bother with it. Email notification makes commenting on blogs just plain easy.

    I must also be part of the 12% who do not like RSS. Although my blog has over 300,000 hits, I do not subscribe to any RSS feeds and more often than not, comments that I left on someone’s blog do not get followed up because that blog did not offer Email notifications. Similarly when someone comments on my posts, it would be a big help to have the poster notified of all comments to that thread (users have the option of unsubscribing later on). I hope WordPress 2.7 includes features from this recent announcement http://www.intensedebate.com/

    The “Intense Debate” system may not be what I’m talking about. It says:

    That sounds like email management of comments on YOUR OWN blog. I’m talking about surfing the blogosphere, finding some article that is really interesting, leaving a comment and clicking a little box that notifies me BY EMAIL if the blog owner — or anyone else for that matter — responds to my comment on THEIR blog.

    So for instance, I’m surfing, surfing, and find a “naughty person” that thinks Global warming is a bunch of rubbish. ;-) I don’t know them from a bar of soap. I don’t really want to RSS to their blog and get all their “Global warming is a bunch of rubbish” opinion in my RSS reader. But I MIGHT want to challenge them on this ONE point that I found. So I leave a comment, and click the Blogger box that says…

    [] “Email follow-up comments to (email visible only to moderators and staff)”

    Then I can go happily about my day, knowing I’ve had my say and move on in the world. If he replies, I can simply click on the email and go back to that “naughty blogger” and dish out some more reality. ;-) But I don’t have to remember who he is, subscribe to his annoying blog, or anything like that. The email looks after it all for me.

    I’ve added my comments feed to my feedburner account. Using that, I offer “subscribe to all comments by email” on my blog.

    I know what you’re after and it’s exactly the same thing I’m after too! The “Intense Debate” feature is something I want (ability to post comments by email) in addition to the the email alert feature. Be patient, I’m confident WP.com will offer it sooner or later.
