  When I post, my entire post is sent to my subscribers via email. I would like to change that setting, so only the first few sentences are sent, and reading the full article requires clicking on the shortlink. How can I do this?

  You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here > Settings > Reading
  and choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed or the “full text”.

  That does not affect the length of the post displayed on the front page or main page for posts on the blog. To create excerpts there we can split content by inserting “the more tag” http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

  Please forgive my ignorance, but I’m assuming the “RSS feed” pertains to the emails sent when I post?

  Yes. The RSS feed is where the data is drawn from. This is your RSS Feed URL for posts http://vtworks.wordpress.com/feed/
