Email Notifications

Is there a way to change the email notifications for all followed sites at once instead of having to go through each and every one? It’s very time consuming and I just want to turn off daily email notifications for everything since I just check my Reader on a daily basis and receiving the emails daily is redundant. For some reason I think there was a way to do this, but it looks like the Mange Followed Sites interface has changed.

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

For future subscriptions you can go to https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions and set the default delivery to Never send email.

Unfortunately, it does appear that in order to change the delivery setting on existing subscriptions, you need to edit each site you are following.

Optionally you can tick the box next to Block all email updates from blogs you’re following on WordPress.com on the above link.

I’m not sure of the ramifications of ticking that box in terms of follow up comments and the like and I don’t find any mention in the Support doc on email notifications, so I’ve tagged this for Staff attention.

  • Hi @ash1rose, thanks for the feedback. We don’t have a bulk unfollow-by-email option right now, but that’s not a bad idea. I’ll pass that along to the developers.

In the meantime, feel free to use the block all emails option if you’d like — there’s a link near the subscription info in each email. Let us know if you need help with this.

  • Oh and @justjennifer:

I’m not sure of the ramifications of ticking that box in terms of follow up comments and the like and I don’t find any mention in the Support doc on email notifications, so I’ve tagged this for Staff attention.

This would indeed block emails for comments and what not too. We’ll see if we can come up with an easier way to do this. It wouldn’t be anything immediate, but know it’s on our list of ideas.

@supernovia-thanks for that extra bit of information. Would it be possible to add it to the support doc in the section on “What if the emails are not getting through?” Thanks again

  • @justjennifer — possibly. What did you have in mind there?

Thank you justjennifer and supernovia! I follow a few blogs that I receive instant delivery on so I don’t want to click never send mail, but I appreciate knowing that that’s an option. Also thank you for taking a bulk unfollow feature into consideration and for getting back to me so quickly on this matter.

I hope you both have a happy holiday!

@supernovia – Maybe something along the lines of if you are not receiving email notifications of comments you follow (and what not), check to see if you have chosen to block all notifications from WordPress.com on the Reader Subscription page. Hm, I could see how this could be confusing, especially in light of no visible place (I could find) to manage comment subscriptions in the New Dash. :(( Maybe I need more coffee.

@ash1rose – you are welcome from me as well. :)

  • Okay @justjennifer, I see what you mean now. It looks like Calypso may give a bit finer control than the older block-all-emails option.

This one lets you block emails or set defaults for the sites you’re following:
    https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions

This one lets you manage comment notifications re: other sites:
    https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/comments

So @ash1rose should be OK using the “Block all email updates from blogs you’re following on WordPress.com” option. I hope that helps!

That is exactly the page I was looking for! I thought I’d seen something like that before, but I was unable to locate it again. Thanks so much again!!
