Email Notifications from Wrong Person

    I recently changed the email address associated with my blog from GMail to Proton Mail and ALL notifications and comments are now arriving in my inbox with someone else’s name attached to them in the “From” space, like this:
    From: Jane Doe <(email visible only to moderators and staff)>
    But my name is not Jane Doe! This person is a reader (and friend) of mine, but I have no idea how this happened or how to fix it.
    Any help is appreciated.

    That sounds strange. Would you be willing to get a few screenshots of what you’re seeing, then upload them to the media library? https://wordpress.com/media

    Please go ahead and include a screenshot of the whole email, or at least enough that we can see the subject, date/time, and sender so we can dig into this a bit more.

    I found the problem and have already fixed it. I tried to delete the question, but the link to it wasn’t working yesterday. However, for anyone who might have the same issue, here is what happened and how I fixed it.

    As noted in my initial query, I recently imported my contacts from GMail into ProtonMail. But before I ever took that step, one of my contacts and blog readers, Jane Doe, sent me a comment using the “Contact” tab on my blog. Those types of messages always land in Gmail as coming from WordPress and use a “donotreply” email address. (I intentionally set up my Contact page this way to protect my real email address). It looks something like this:

    From: Jane Doe <donotreply@wordpress(dot)com>
    To: me@protonmail(dot)com

    Apparently, Jane Doe’s message to me through my contact page was automatically added to my GMail contacts with WordPress’ “donotreply” email address. Hence, once I began getting notifications from my blog, Jane’s name was always associated the WordPress “donotreply” email addy.

    To fix this, I simply opened Jane Doe’s “contact details” setting in my email client and changed the contact name from Jane Doe to WordPress. Now, all emails from WP come in labeled correctly.
