Email notifications not working
-
Another wordpress.com user and I are not getting any email notifications of new posts for wordpress.com blogs we have subscribed too. We both have the same ISP, which is bigpond in Australia. We have checked with three blog friends who use different ISPs (two non-Australian and one Australian) and they have not received any disruption to their notifications.
We understand that bigpond is occasionally blacklisted and we wonder whether you could check whether you mail provider has blacklisted bigpond for some reason. Bigpond is, probably, Australia’s biggest ISP.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

While you sound confident in your statement, it helps to check if the settings for email notifications on new posts are enabled here: https://wordpress.com/following/manage
Can you check if settings for individual sites is enabled? Let me know and I can help further.

Thanks very much strikebuys. If you mean do they register there with the word “following” against them, then yes, the first site that clued me into the problem is listed that way and as having been updated a day ago (though I’ve not received notification of that.)

The Following button that you see is to confirm that posts from that site will be showing up on your WordPress.com Reader feed. You can learn about it here. https://en.support.wordpress.com/following/
I was referring to the Settings button available just below the Following button. You will be able to see two options there called New posts and New comments, under the Email me section.
Enabling the first option should ensure that you receive email alerts for new posts on sites you have enabled it for.

Thanks strikebuys. Yes, I rather wondered whether the “following” related to reader feeds. However, there is nothing below the word following:
On the left is the name of the blog/site, below that their tag line, below that their URL and when they were last updated; and to the right of the name is the green word Following. I can click that to unfollow. But there’s nothing else. No settings button. And yet, for example, the one I’m looking at I’ve received email notifications from for years and years. I’m looking at the link you sent me. Is there somewhere else?

I’ve now discovered that it seems to be related to the “block emails” check box in the Subscriptions delivery page. My box was ticked, though I had never ticked it. Does WordPress have some sort of automatic blocking protocol in your bounce processing that might trigger ticking this box? (I have unchecked it and all is well at the moment – but I did have to do it a second time since I discovered it, as it got ticked again.)
