Email Notifications Sent to Followers for New Posts

Can we change the format of the email that is sent to followers when a new post is published to match the theme/color scheme of our blog? Right now it’s just a standard email format but we would prefer to have it match our theme.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Currently there isn’t an option to customise the email notifications sent to your site subscribers. If you are interested in customising the emails further, the only option is to send the emails using a third party service like MailChimp. MailChimp is not supported by default on WordPress.com
but you are welcome to create a Link (either on a post/page or in a Text Widget) to a MailChimp signup form. That way visitors to your site can click the link to sign up on MailChimp. You can send customised emails from MailChimp to your site followers. -
I’ve just started using WP and set up a new website. I have a small number of followers who have ‘subscribed’ to new posts through the WP follow button and through the widget in the menu (for non-WP readers).
However, I am continuing to develop the site and publishing archival material. I don’t want followers to receive email notices for all these republished, older works—just for the new material.
How can I turn off the email notification for the publication of archival posts?
