email notifications (sharing a post) are not going through

    I would like to share a post with a few people via email. I clicked to share the email, put in the email and typed the security “word”, but the emails are not going through.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I just tried to share the front page on http://uponly.co/. I was able to receive the email as shown here:

    Can you let me know an email address you recently tried to share the post with that wasn’t able to receive it? Please note, the email address will appear redacted in the forums, but it will be visible to staff.

    I sent the post today
    to a friend, but when it didn’t seem to work, I sent it to myself as a tester. I sent it to (email visible only to moderators and staff) and (email visible only to moderators and staff).

    On every occasion it told me I had successfully shared it via email, but I have received nothing and have sent it to myself a total of 5 times now as I tried different things out.

    Hi!

    Did the email happen to land in your Social tab in Gmail? Alternatively, did it land in your Spam folder?

    Thanks for responding. I checked my spam folder. Nothing. To be honest, I don’t know where the Social tab is in Gmail. I will look.

    I was told that someone else did receive it by email. So maybe I just can’t send it to myself? I used a different email than just the one linked to my site however.

    You should be able to send the post to yourself through email. The Social tab should be at the top when you login to Gmail.com as shown here:

    Thank you. The emails were sent to the people I intended to send to, but I never received the ones I sent to myself. I don't see the social tab on my gmail as you described.

    That’s odd! I just shared it again with your Gmail address. Can you check to see if you’ve received it? If you don’t see it right away, can you search your email inbox for @wordpress.com? That should return all emails from WordPress.com (including, hopefully, the shared post email).

    Thanks, still nothing. There are emails from wordpress.com of course, but not the two that I sent out and not to either address. Weird. The good thing is that I sent it out to two people and they got it. I just sent it to myself to double check that day. And when I didn’t receive them, I was pretty sure they hadn’t either. Turned out they did. So maybe I shouldn’t worry about it, but it is odd.

    I’m not ready to quit on this just yet! It should be sending to your addresses. Do you happen to have another email address that we could try other than your Gmail and Uponly?

    Now the sharing links (email, Facebook, twitter, etc) are not showing up on the bottom of my post. I would like to email this again to a couple of people. I checked “sharing” and everything seems to be in order and should appear at the bottom of a post, but it is no longer there.

    Ok, I went to a different computer and checked via my phone and the sharing links were there. However why not when I am on my site from my computer? Also, it still won’t email to either of my addresses. And today, without the share option I can’t email the post to anyone through wordpress from my computer.

    Can you try clearing your browser’s cache following the steps here?

    If that doesn’t work, can you take a screenshot of what you see on the homepage and add it to your Media Library? Screenshot instructions can be found here:

    Also, it still won’t email to either of my addresses.

    Do you by chance have your normal @gmail and @uponly email addresses forwarded to one another?

    Thanks for sticking with me. I cleared the browser cache for Safari and it still seemed to have the issue. But I switched back to Google Chrome and it was all there. So I will just stick with this browser again.

    I tried emailing again and nothing. My emails do not forward, they are separate. All WordPress communication goes just to (email visible only to moderators and staff). But neither email will pick up an email from my site… Not a big deal if others are getting it, but I like to send a test now and then.

    Hi Shay,

    Regarding the Safari issue, can you try disabling all plugins and add-ons in Safari? These can be found under Safari -> Preferences -> Extensions. Let me know if that clears up the share button issue.

    Regrading the email sharing, can you try to email yourself this post?

    First of all, thanks for spending so much time on me. I feel a bit silly, but I truly appreciate it.
    So the plug-ins were already all off on Safari. I am still not showing any sharing notification icons on the bottom of pages. It does show up in Chrome.
    I tested the two pages you had me email. I sent them both to each of my email accounts. The only one that went through was your test site sent to (email visible only to moderators and staff) (not to my uponly.co acct).

    Also, on another (likely connected) note, I could not respond to our forum conversation while in Safari. I had to change back to Chrome in order to have a reply box to send you this message.

    Can you let me know which options are checked under Safari -> Preferences -> Security?

    Regarding the email sharing, we might be on to something here. Can you do the following?

    1. Visit your site here: http://uponly.co/

    2. You should see the word “Following” in the left-hand corner of the admin bar indicating you’re following your site.

    3. Click that button to unfollow your site

    4. Once you’ve unfollowed, try to send a post to your @uponly.co email address

    Can you let me know if that’s successful?

    Also, I noticed you mapped the address shaygoulding.uponly.com to your site. It looks like that address is coming up on a broken page. Should that have been shaygoulding.uponly.co?

    Ok, duh… that worked. I unfollowed and then the email went through. Thanks for holding my hand through that one. :)

    Okay, if I use Chrome everything is great. But Safari is still a problem. One solution is I just use Chrome.

    Here is what is checked on Safari Preferences (security):
    Warn when visiting fraudulent sites
    Enable Java Script
    Allow Web GL
    Allow Plug-ins (this was checked, I unchecked it)
    Should I also block pop-ups??

    After I unchecked “Allow Plug-ins” I went back to the site, but the Sharing Tabs were still not below or anywhere on the site.

    I will double check the addressed mapped.
