Email requesting verification of my email address

    I received three emails recently from ‘WordPress.com <(email visible only to moderators and staff)>’ asking me to verify my email address by clicking an orange box. Is this a legit request? (If not, please let me know immediately, because I already clicked the box in one email. It took me to a separate page that said ‘Thank you for verifying your email,’ but never told me which domain the verification was connected to.)

    Hi there,

    That email is legitimate and comes from our registrar.

    All domains are regulated by an organisation called ICANN. ICANN requires every domain to have valid and verified contact details for the domain owner, and that email is used to verify that the email you entered when registering the domain is valid. If you don’t verify your domain, our registrar must suspend it as per ICANN regulations.

    That said, I don’t see any domain registrations in your account you’re using to post here, but you might have bought a domain using a different account. If you can confirm the email address at which you received those emails I can check on that for you.

    The email is (email visible only to moderators and staff). Is it ever possible to just email help questions to you guys privately? I’m not a fan of the whole public forum help section.

    That email address is for this account, and I see you did have a domain, northamericanconvocation.com, registered in this account. But that domain expired in May and was removed from our system a few days ago, so you shouldn’t be getting an email to verify the address for that domain.

    Is it possible that you own another domain in a different WordPress.com account?

    We do offer private live chat an email support, but you need a paid upgrade in your account to access those services.
