Email scam?

  I keep getting emails from random people asking me to edit their documents, it’s coming from ether email address (email visible only to moderators and staff), is this a scam or a real email?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  Hi there,

  Can you tell us at which email address you’re receiving these? If you type your email on its own line it will be hidden automatically so only staff can see it.

  If the emails mention a specific site, can you also reply with that URL(s)?

  From your description this sounds like invite spam – spammers create a new WordPress.com account, or gain access to an existing account, then starts creating random sites and sending user invites to the site using random email addresses they bought on the dark web.

  We recently had a spike in this type of spam, and have taken measures to stop new sites being created, but there could be sites that were created that haven’t been cleaned up yet. If you can provide the URLs we can check those and take care of them.
