    hi

i’m not sure any more, where is my email (email visible only to moderators and staff) is hosted?
it seems its still hosted on bluehost, i guess that is fine, right? my email can be there
but the domain points to wordpress?

    thanks
    shireen

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Shireen!

It looks like you are using a third-party for your email. However, that email address is connected to your domain through what are referred to as DNS settings that were input at WordPress.com. So, your email isn’t managed through WordPress.com; we just have the correct records in place so that your email works properly. Does that make sense?

    Hi Jeremy,

I understand, but because I had to put in information to transfer domain from bluehost to wordpress, setting that they have now are of wordpress.

I am not receiving mails from them now because of that.

nameservers had to be changed on domain account to:

    ns3.wordpress.com.
    ns1.wordpress.com.
    ns2.wordpress.com.

This is what they said I need to do. Not sure how to go about it.

You need to have them change the DNS so that the MX record is pointing back to your Bluehost account. Otherwise, email is going to wherever they have it set by default.

    Please help!

    Hi!

When you changed the name servers to WordPress.com, the email DNS records at BlueHost stopped working. This is normal. The email DNS records need to be added wherever the name servers are pointed. Does that make sense? In order for your domain to continue displaying your WordPress.com blog, the name servers need to be pointed to WordPress.com. However, you can enter the DNS records at WordPress.com following the instructions here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/

That page will provide instructions on how to enter the records at WordPress.com for various email services. Can you try adding your DNS records to WordPress.com and let me know if you have any trouble?

    Email

This domain currently has custom mail servers defined in its DNS settings. This means that WordPress.com Email Forwarding is not available for this domain, and that you should manage your email with your email provider.

The email servers for this domain are:

    mail.forthefuturelady.com.

    Hmmmmmm!

    Hey Jeremy,

I’ve tried changing the names servers, used the wordpress one and the the bluehost one.

Both come up with error message, see below.

    This is Bluehosts name servers..
    ns1.BlueHost.com
    ns2.BlueHost.com

    Name Servers

Oops! Something went wrong and your request could not be processed. Please try again or Contact Support if you continue to have trouble.
Name Servers point your domain to the right website host. When your domain uses the WordPress.com name servers, it points to WordPress.com. Most other hosting providers have their own name servers. If you set it to use your new host’s name servers, the domain will point to your new host.

Your domain must use WordPress.com Name Servers for your WordPress.com site to load, any WordPress.com email forwards you have active to function, and for the DNS Editor to be available.

    Use WordPress.com Name Servers
Use the custom Name Servers listed below

Ive noticed this under DNS records – can the settings be changed?

MX forthefuturelady.com mail handled by mail.forthefuturelady.com. with priority 0
    Edit DNS Record
    MX handled by with priority

Hi there! Please see my answers below:

This domain currently has custom mail servers defined in its DNS settings. This means that WordPress.com Email Forwarding is not available for this domain, and that you should manage your email with your email provider.

Email forwarding and a custom email address are actually two different things explained here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/

    DNS Records

Email forwarding is not a custom email address. Basically, email forwarding just forwards the email to a current address you already own (like a Gmail address). A custom email address, by contrast, has a separate address (like (email visible only to moderators and staff)) and a separate inbox that you would need to check to receive mail. Does that make sense?

Can you tell me where you have your custom email setup (common services can be seen on the sidebar here)?

I’ve tried changing the names servers, used the wordpress one and the the bluehost one.

Provided you want your domain to display the content at shireenramjoo.wordpress.com/wp-admin, you’ll want to keep your domain name servers set to WordPress.com. You’ll just need to make sure you copy the DNS records over to WordPress.com.

Ive noticed this under DNS records – can the settings be changed?

    Yep! Following the instructions here:

    DNS Records

In order for your email address to work, you’ll need to take all of the DNS records that were at BlueHost and insert them into the Edit DNS spot at WordPress.com. Does that make sense?

Hey Jeremy, I have contacted bluehost and they gave me details of their DNS settings.

I have changed it on wordpress, but still unable to get mails..

    DNS

    Existing DNS Records
    A forthefuturelady.com handled by WordPress.com
    NS forthefuturelady.com handled by WordPress.com
    CNAME *.forthefuturelady.com handled by WordPress.com
MX forthefuturelady.com mail handled by box341.bluehost.com. with priority 10

    Any reasons why??
