Email – SMTP error from remote server for RCPT TO command – Relay access denied

    I need help asap with email! Certain email senders have started to get the following error when sending email to my WP address:

    SMTP error from remote server for RCPT TO command, host: smtp-fwd.wordpress.com (192.0.97.133) reason: 554 5.7.1 <(email visible only to moderators and staff)>: Relay access denied

    The rejected senders are various email hosts including commercial institutions, verizon, comcast….all random. I’ve done a lot of googling and everything points to the sender not being able to authenticate the recipient’s server. But I don’t see any way I can make changes in the WP control panel. I don’t want to pay for any advanced functionality…I have a basic plan for a simple website.

    Is my only option to drop the WP email address and use a paid one from a different hosting company, or another free one from something like yahoo/gmail? Thanks!

    I see that in the previous thread that @terrybrownell mentioned, you were asked to verifying the email. If you haven’t already verified the email, maybe verifying should fix your issue.

    Answering the above bit. As mentioned on the Add Email page, you can setup upto 25 emails for free with Zoho App for your domain – See here

    After you setup Zoho Mail with the above instructions, I would recommend you add these setting as well to not have the above issue.

    Email forwarding has been verified and the error still occurs.

    Is there any other option than using hosted email?
