email stopped working after mapping my domain to wordpress

  I’ve set up an MX record as instructed but still not getting email. How long does it take for the updated DNS record to take effect. The mapping of my site went fine and worked almost immediately, , , concerned that the MX record is not accurate, , , how can I verify that is is correct?

  Yes, I used this reference site.
  .
  My MX record I used is:
  MX 10 mailhost.myhostname.com.

  Our DNS locations are NS1.wordpress.com and NS2.wordpress

  Is the number “10” in the MX record incorrect or maybe something else, , , like “1”?
