"Email subscribers"

I am sorry for a silly question… But I can’t see in my menu/settings “Email Subscribers” function. As I understand it’s should be placed between “Comments” and “Appearance”, but somehow I don’t have it. Therefore I can not find at all the relevant functions and options concerning emailing subscribers about new posts. Thank you for your help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I would add that my aim is temporally to stop emailing subscribers since I learned that when I added backdated posts, they received them via email as “new” posts. And I would like to make backdated posts added by me now not being sent to subscribers. Thank you!

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider. That software does not come with any subscription feature built in, but that feature is added using plugins.

It sounds like you’ve been looking at the documentation or a tutorial for a specific plugin that adds subscriber settings at that point in the WP-Admin menu, but not all plugins do that.

In your site’s case, subscriptions is added by the Jetpack plugin that also connects it to your WordPress.com account. You can find details on how to disable Jetpack’s subscriptions module in their support page for this feature, here:

    Thank you!
Of course my site is hosted on WordPress.com (it’s full URL is economicsociologydotorg.wordpress.com)

If I get you right, there is no simple option to temporally stop emailing my subscribers when I add backdated posts. So every time when I add a post (let’s say with January 15, 2015 date) – they will always get email notification of “New Post”?
My goal is temporally stop emailing my subscribers when I add backdated posts.

Also, I don’t have Jetpack plugin… I don’t see something like this in Settings. But my email subscribers do get email from me when a new post is out.

I’d appreciate you help very much…. Because I feel lost at this situation. Thank you!

  • My mistake.

Go to My Site ->Manage ->Settings, and set the site to private. Posts you publish while the site is set to private will not be emailed to subscribers.

Once you’re done publishing the posts, you can set the site back to public.
