email subscribers confirmations apparently going to spam

I have been told numerous times friends and family have subscribed to my new blog, yet they are not showing up in my followers. I have checked with a few of them, and the confirmation was in their spam folder. Or I have “invited them” But I can’t check with everyone to police this, and I can’t check with people I don’t know who are signing up. Are others having issues with subscribers not recieving the wordpress confirmation emails so they can complete the subscription? What can we do to fix this so it’s easier to sign up? I can’t keep asking the same people to keep re-subscribing. thanks!

  • Are all of the spam reports from a specific email provider, like Hotmail or Gmail?

They are not–they are all different. Some of them are local providers.

  • Ok, are the subscription emails affected too, or just the confirmation emails?

I think what happens is the person signs up from the email widget, but never receives anything from WordPress, therefore, they never get confirmed and do not get my subscription.

I checked with one person, who did find it in the spam box. But like I said, if I don’t know who is signing up based on some shared exposure, I’m not sure who is missing and that’s worrisome.

Is there a way WordPress can see who they have received emails from for subscribing to a particular blog, and match it up to how many are confirmed and see what the variance is? Thanks so much!

  • I would need to know exact email addresses to check, but even then we can’t tell if it went to spam, we can only tell if it arrived.

You’re the first to report this in a while, so it doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue.

    Interesting, and odd.

I’d like to send you a few emails to check but don’t really want those on the public forum. Are we able to make this private?

    Thanks.

  • As long as you post them in the standard format, the forum will actually hide them, and they’ll only be visible to myself and my colleagues.
