Email subscribers in stats vs. homepage

  Hi! I have looked far and wide for an answer to this. In my Stats, it says I have 36 WP followers and 21 email subscribers. On my home page, it says “Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email. Join 801 followers.”

  That’s a pretty big discrepancy. Can anyone explain it to me? Many thanks!!!!
