Email subscribing to my blog

    Hello,

I gave a presentation over the weekend where I had a sign up sheet to subscribe to email delivery of my blog posts. I figured if I told people to go to my blog and subscribe for themselves, it would never happen. So, I bypassed the steps for them by collecting email addresses on a sign up list, and I plan on entering them in. I let them know they will get an email to confirm their subscription. This list is entirely with their permission.

It looks like WordPress has a built-in feature to prevent people from mass subscribing emails to a blog, as once I entered an email address it wouldn’t let me enter another one. When I deleted my cache it reappeared so I could add another email address.

My concern is that I just want to subscribe people as they put on the sign-up list without looking like a spammer. I don’t want to do something that would look like I’m violating Terms of Service, but the email addresses I have (about 15) were legitimately collected– it just wasn’t directly through the blog.

I would appreciate input so I can get these people connected to my blog, as they requested.

    Thanks!

As you noticed there is no means of uploading a list of email subscribers to WordPress.com blogs. Each person who wishes to subscribe to your blog must seek out your blog and do that individually.

About your only option is to send an email to your attendees with a link to your site and instructions to click on the subscribe link – apologize and explain that this is a spam prevention feature that you were not aware of when you took their emails.

You could send them the link to your latest Post.

WordPress.COM (and many other subscribe systems do things this way to prevent them from being used to generate mass spam.
