Email subscription in a form

  Hi, I can’t believe I’m the first person to ask this so as I’m new to wordpress and I’ve searched the forums etc I’m assuming I’m missing something pretty fundamental here.

  I want to have a form on http://collegiateclass.wordpress.com that allows email subscription but also collects information about the subscriber. Simple things like name, town they live etc. I’ve created a form on the “Sign Up” page of the blog but have fudged the subscription element by collecting their email and then manually subscribing based on an opt in check box, once they have submitted the form.

  Is there a way of automating the whole process so they subscribe as part of the form submission?

  We cannot use forms on wordpress.com blog other than those provided by wordpress.com. The software will strip the code out. No other web forms can be used. We do not have FTP access to wordpress.com blogs and we cannot upload web form plugins into our blogs or any other plugins for that matter.

  If you wish to have your readers subscribe to your blog then you can enable up blog subscriptions. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscriptions/ and http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/blog-subscription-widget/

  No, there is no an automated means at wordpress.com.

  The short answer: not on WordPress.com.

  Email subscription via the Subscription widget and a sign-up form like you have created are entirely different functions and you can’t combine them.

  You’re also forgetting WordPress.com users who may subscribe via the “Subscribe to blog” button up there in the gray Admin Bar. Some of those readers may be reading in their “Subscription Reader” and never receive a single email.

  And what about those who subscribe to an RSS feed? Those subscribers will also not see the form unless you make an announcement about it in the blog itself.
