Email subscription now working? “Your subscription did not succeed”

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog visitors notifies my the email subscription option does not work.
If you try to enter email address to get to the page (see screenshot below).

Do I understand correctly, that they need to type in their email address again, and than manage their subscriptions?

If yes, the email subscription process is confusing as hell, as people interpret the prompt “please try again with a valid email address” as they cannot use the email (for some reason) and come back to asking: “Why I cannot subscribe?”.

At very least please change the prompt to something like: “You have not subscribed yet, please create account to manage your wordpress.com subscriptions first”.

  • Hi,

I’ve been looking at this issue. To make sure I had the same experience your subscribers would have, I’ve just subscribed to your site with a test email that had not been used in a WordPress.com account. This is what happened:

    • I introduce the email and click enter. I saw a notice that the subscription was correctly setup and that I’d receive an email.
    • I opened my email and it saw this:
    • Clicked the “Confirm email” button, and I was redirected to WordPress.com with an account pre-created for my email:

Would you be able to share specific steps of how any subscriber would see that screen you shared? We’ll be happy to follow-up about that to make sure they have a great experience in your site.

Hi – you seems to be logged into wordpress.com – that’s why you see things differently.
Please make sure you are completely log out. Than you are greeted with confusing “please try with a valid email address” (see the screenshot in my original post).

  • Here’s what I see when subscribing in a Private (logged out) window:

Please keep in mind that after the user confirms their subscription, a WordPress.com reader account will be made for them. So it isn’t possible to test the next step in a logged out view, because that reader would have an account at that point.

Based on the error message you received, it sounds like you did not use a valid email address. You may want to double check what you typed in. If you’d like us to check the specific email address you used, please send us an email with that information and we’d be happy to investigate further.
