Email Subscription plugins

    I have some questions about subscription plugins. I have a small niche blog; the old WordPress plugin that accepted people inputting their email address and getting notifications from my hosting provider about new posts worked just fine. Then it was deprecated (and vanished from the sidebar) in favor of the newer block widgets (whatever they’re called).
    Would the old one still work as before?

    If not, is there another that simply ‘just works?’ In other words, people see an option to type in their email address – it’s added to a database on the site – and they get notified whenever there’s a new post.

    I don’t need commercial, paid options like mailchimp, etc. Last I looked I had only 130ish email subscribers and therefore do not need to pay for some heavy duty email subscription manager.

    What are my options? Would the old one still work? It’s currently in the ‘inactive widgets’ area.) Any free alternatives if it doesn’t?

    Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed hosting.

    To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions.

    Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at your current provider. As a result, we do not have access to your site and are not familiar with the source of your issue.

    You definitely have the option to move your site to us so we can provide in-house help, using our migration plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpcom-migration/ and the site would need to be on the business plan.
