Email subscriptions and Privacy Policy

  Hi,

  I’m just about to start up my new blog containing short fiction and photographic essays. I’m using Jetpack and have included the email subscription widget in my side bar. People can also subscribe when they comment.

  I don’t intend to use the email adresses for any other reason than to notify people of new posts, so no custom campaigns for example. I’m UK based.

  My question is do I need to create and publish a privacy policy on my blog? My understanding is that Automattic collect the email adresses, but I can have access to them. Does that mean I’m covered by their policy?

  Jetpack subscriptions are covered under our Terms of Service. For the scenario you describe, we do not require you to publish a separate privacy policy. You may want to check with your host to see whether they have other requirements.
