Email subscriptions – where is the data in the database?
-
Hi, I’ve recently migrated our wordpress site onto a new server. Up until May sometime (before the migration), the Jetpack “SUBSCRIBE TO BLOG VIA EMAIL” feature displayed something like 1221 subscribers. It’s now 189 and I’m 99% certain they haven’t unsubscribed.
I still have the pre migration installation running on another server, so I tried exporting and then re importing the wp database again. That didn’t help, looking back on waybackmachine I can see that whatever happened to loose the data, happened just after May 26th. I have a backup from UpDraftPlus dated just before that I presume would have the intact email subscribers data?
What I’m thinking is that I reinstate that pre May 26th backup to the old server instance. If I do this, can I just export the appropriate table containing the email subscriber data and import that into the active site using phpmyadmin? And if so, which table stores that data?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The post has auto filled the blog name that I need help with. This is incorrect, it’s: mtmawson.info

Hi there,
Are you asking how to migrate your Jetpack subscribers from mtmawson.info to gumleaf.net.au?
That has nothing to do with your site’s database, as that data is stored on our system via the Jetpack plugin. When you moved the site to a different domain and connected that site to Jetpack, it was added as a new site on our end, as we have no way of knowing it’s the same site that is already connected via a different domain.
You can find instructions on how to migrate your subscribers between different Jetpack sites you own here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/
If you need more help with this, or would like us to migrate your stats between the sites as well, please let us know.

Hi, thanks for the reply, yes I’d love some help with this, if you’re able to migrate the subscribers for me, then yes please do. I did wonder if the data was stored in the site database or with Jetpack but I couldn’t find any info regarding that.
Ok so the wordpress website in question is: mtmawson.info it’s not gumleaf.net.au, that’s my WHM account on another server where mtmawson.info used to reside The site url hasn’t changed, just the server.
After the migration, I couldn’t connect to Jetpack, and followed Jetpack advice online to reconnect. I can’t actually remember if I just disabled then reenabled or deleted the plugin and then reinstalled it.
Let me know if you need anything from me?

Hi Kokkieh, hey great work thanks – I see the blog is now reporting 1,095 subscribers! We did have 1,221 so there’s still a small deficit of 128, any ideas?
-
Hi Supernovia, yes it was from Mt Mawson.info. I just moved the site to a new server, no change in url.
I do have a twitter connection, but the followers in question were explicitly displayed within the “SUBSCRIBE TO BLOG VIA EMAIL” Jetpack widget. Have a look in the sidebar and you’ll see what I mean.

There are only 189 subscribers via Jetpack on mtmawson.info, and if you just changed servers and didn’t change the site’s address, there’s no need to migrate any subscribers as the site is still using the same Jetpack connection.
The 905 other subscribers on mtmawson.info is via the Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/southern.tasmania.ski.association/, that you have connected to that site. It’s possible this Facebook follow count was incorrect, and when you reconnected Jetpack it forced a refresh.
I also see you deleted a Twitter connection on 28 May, which should explain any further discrepancy.

Ah that’s great, I didn’t realize that Facebook and Twitter followers were included in the total. It would be useful for that breakdown from the various sources to be displayed in the dashboard. I reconnected the Facebook account just after we started this chat, so that’s why I’m seeing 1,094 subscribers now I guess?
Any way, thanks for your help with this.

That breakdown should be visible in your stats page at https://wordpress.com/stats/insights

Hi, I’m having ongoing issues with this plugin. I’ve recently been made aware that a small percentage of my email subscribers aren’t getting the posts at all, they are in the subscribers list. I’ve verified this by emailing to all of them for feedback (and asked them to also check their spam folder in case).
In addition, one of my authors made a post last night. The post and associated images are displaying properly on the blog, but the email subscribers version and Facebook feed aren’t displaying images at all, just a outline where the images should be:
Blog Link
Facebook LinkCan I assume this is an issue with Jetpack? Is there a way to fix these problems? Are any other users having this issue?
Thanks in Advance!

In order to troubleshoot why those email followers are not receiving the emails we’ll need to know their email addresses.
As for the image, the image set as the OpenGraph image, which is what Facebook uses for the preview, on that post is http://mtmawson.info/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_9809.jpeg, but that image is returning a 403 error, meaning something on your site is blocking that image from being accessed directly. This is not a problem with Jetpack, but with another plugin or some setting on your server, so please contact support at your hosting provider to make sure your server is not blocking this type of access for security reasons.
If that doesn’t work, please ask for help in the WordPress.org forums instead – the users there will have a better idea about likely causes and will be able to help you troubleshoot this.

Hi Kokkieh, sure I’ll send them through once I recived back the bulk of the notification replies I sent out. At this stage is looks like there’s only a few which is good.
As for the image, I think I’ve tracked that down to some hotlink protection we tried to enable on the server server, so that is getting sorted now. Thanks for the tip with that.

For any followers with Gmail addresses, ask them to please also check the Social and Updates tabs in the inbox – Gmail often filters our emails there.
Also ask people who didn’t receive the emails to check their subscription settings at either https://subscribe.wordpress.com/ or https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions/
and make sure they’re not blocking emails from us.
