email support – fake reply?

I submitted an email support request earlier today, and marked it private because it had to do with a subscriber issue.

I just received an email, no WP branding, not formatted like previous private help replies, just looks like a normal personal email, and asking me what blog it was about. That form auto-fills the blog reference – same as the “select blog you need help with” that I am seeing here on this form. All of which has me wondering if this is somehow not-for-real. There is a reference of 2175432.

Can someone tell me if this is legit? it doesn’t look or sound it, somehow. If you tell me that is a valid case number tied to me and this blog, Wine Woman Travel, then I will reply to it. Otherwise… you may have a problem with someone intercepting your help line.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello Timethief! I miss you and your blogs, and hope you are having a grand time with all those hours away from the computer!

That said, thanks for catching this and flagging it up, I appreciate it.

I’m still spending far too much timer online. Like always I’m multitasking from our business when I am online, and I’m addicted to answering support questions. Otherwise I’m doing excellent. I went back to singing in choirs and singing again lifting my spirit. I gave up far too much like music, reading, crafts, etc. when I fell down the blogging rabbit hole. By Fall I hope to be fully retired – we shall see. ;)

  • Do you mean this from Kris?

Could you provide the address of the blog this is happening on and her email address so I can see if she has a pending subscription?

If so, that’s a valid email from us, please reply to it. :)

Ok – I will reply. But with no WP branding or formatting on the message like the messages I get from replies here, and demanding information that should have been part of the original request as per WP own automated form, the e-mail really looks and feels dodgy.

  • Take a look at the email address it came from, it should be an @wordpress.com address. Anyone can easily fake branding in an email body, but that From address is far more difficult to fake. :)
