Email to followers upon new post

Hello, I have a private blog with just a few followers. When I publish a new post, they are not receiving an email to notify them of this. Can you help?

Hi Monica,
Since your site is private only invited viewers will receive email notifications of your posts – not blog followers.

If you have Viewers (which you can see by going to Users > Invite new in your Dashboard) that are not receiving emails can you provide me their email addresses? Our system will remove them from the public view, but I will be able to see them.

From what I can ascertain, I don’t think any viewers are receiving email notifications when new posts are published.
In the link provided, it says: “Viewers must also sign up to follow a private site if they would like to receive updates each time you publish a new post.” Is there an additional step to “sign up” that needs to be taken?
Also, some invitees bypassed the emailed invite and went straight to the url and sent me a request to view my blog; these don’t show under Users> Invite new.
How can I get all viewers to receive email notifications of new postings?Thanks.

Hi Monica,
Since your blog is Private once a viewer accepts the invite they can control the emails they receive from your site. You nor I can change this for them. If they aren’t receiving emails, it may be that they turned off the email delivery notification. They can check that here:
If they have enabled it, and they still do not receive emails, please have them reply in this thread and I can check if for them.
As for the people who have accepted and are not showing up, please provide me their emails (it will be removed from the public view) and I can take a look.

I know that the followers haven’t turned off their email notifications because these are older relatives that I am dealing with. They can barely access the blog and write a comment, let alone change settings.I have invited about 12 or so people to view blog – all family members. Only four signed up straight from the invite that I sent. These people are listed as “viewers”. One of these gets email notifications. The others do not. The ones that do not get emails are: (email visible only to moderators and staff), (email visible only to moderators and staff), (email visible only to moderators and staff), (email visible only to moderators and staff)
However that is only part of the problem. Secondly, the other people that I invited signed up another way (I’m not entirely sure how – another relative did it for them, and I think she went directly to blog webpage and sent requests to me.). These people are listed as followers. None of these people get email notifications. I have resent a few of these people invitations, but it just says that they have access and doesn’t change their status from followers to viewers. What do I need to do so that all relatives who have signed up to look at blog receive email notifications when I publish a post?

Hi Monica,
So I checked your Viewers and found that there are only 5 accepted Viewers on your account. The rest are awaiting a confirmation.
I checked of those 5, only 1 has set their settings to actually receive email post notifications. The rest have their setting turned off so that they do not receive email post notifications. They can log into their account and go here to turn them on:

They should click the Edit button next to your blog to turn them on. Please note that only they can do this, neither you or I can do this for them.

Since your blog is private the people that asked to be a “Follower” will not work as this is only for Public blogs. For private blogs only invited Viewers that you invite personally will have access to your blog and receive email notifications. So these users should not be able to see your site or receive email notifications.
If you want these people to be able to see your site, please invite them to be a Viewer.
I will email you about the email who has received email notifications from us. They may have to contact their email client.

Pardon my confusion, but I thought that once people became viewers they would automatically receive email notifications. (Yes, only one of these people receive notifications now (Candy). The others don’t. (She said she did not alter settings so… I don’t know why she receives them exactly.)Some of the folks that didn’t accept my viewer email are the same people listed as followers. They do have access to my site. How exactly do they switch from follower to viewer? Is it just a matter of resending the invite?
Then once people accept that, then I have to specifically notify them to turn on emails?

Please disregard anything about Followers as it wouldn’t apply to your blog as it is private. Only viewers will be able to view your blog or receive post notifications.

I’ve checked every accepted Viewer on your blog and besides Candy, they have all post notifications turned off. They will not receive email notifications until they are turned on.

Hi Grace,
I resent invites to “view” my blog to the people that are currently showing as “following”. I am told that they get a message that says they are already members of the blog.
Then I received an email from WordPress saying that (the same person who reported the above) is now following my blog.
I looked at the “invite new” page to see if this person (bobdadpop) is listed as “Accepted” but it shows that the invite is still “Waiting”.
Can you help me to figure out what to do to get the followers switched to viewers?
Also, can you make this exchange between us private?
