Email Updates – how to NOT send the whole post
-
Hi guys. Is there a way, when you update your blog with a new post and it is sent to all your subscribers, that it does not send the ENTIRE post, just an advisory that a new post has been made with a link to the blog? I have a horrible habit of adding things to a post after publishing it and at the moment, people are getting my whole new post sent to them and not going to the site.
Am I being clear? All I want is an advisory sent to the subscribers that there is a new post. :)
Thanks,

(1) You could set the RSS feed to “summary” on this page> Settings > Reading. (2) You could split post content by using “the more tag” and inserting it after a brief ‘teaser” statement. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
(3) You could use the excerpt box below the editor to enter a 1 liner that will be used instead of the content in the post. -

As far as simply sending a “new post” advisory and link to the post as you suggest goes the answer is: “There is no way to do that”.
I believe the reason most people subscribe is to read the entire post in their feed reader or email at their own convenience. As a “new post” advisory and link is all you aim to provide subscribers, then I would suggest that you can do that on twitter, friendfeed or hootsuite. So why offer blog subscriptions?
