Email working but not sending from wordpress

    Glad to hear that emails are passing through for you!

    The issue you are describing now sounds like it is specific to messages sent through Contact Form 7 forms, and not a general email deliverability issue, yes? Contact Form 7 is a 3rd party plugin (created by a developer that we’re not connected to) so we don’t have the familiarity necessary to support it directly; we’re a bit limited in what we can do to help here. I did take time to do a bit of research however, and based on my read of their documentation here it seems that in cases where Akismet identifies the form sender as spam, the message is not sent at all and an error message is shown to the sender (the person that filled out the form) instead:

    Where Akismet is deployed, Contact Form 7 sends data to Akismet when a user submits the form. Akismet will verify the data to respond with a “spam” or “ham” answer.

    If a “spam” answer is the response, Contact Form 7 will suspend the email and show a message saying, “There was an error trying to send your message,” surrounded by an orange border.

    I did not see any mention in CF 7 documentation that the email is sent to you even if it is marked as spam, but there would not be anything within Akismet that would log this. I am not clear on how exactly Akismet is integrated with their plugin, so I would recommend contacting Contact Form 7 support directly for a closer look before considering a captcha option.     As a test I might also recommend setting up a form (perhaps on a test page) that does not use akismet:author_url or akismet:author_email parameters and instead use the default form params for CF 7, to see how that affects email sending. This may indicate whether the issue is with the way the plugin integrates with Akismet filtering, or a basic issue with how the plugin accepts form responses that contain a Gmail, and help them in troubleshooting the issue.
