Emailing pictures to blog via 'special address' multiple users?

    Good day everyone,

I am a school teacher and take students around the world during the summers (I’ve taken them to Australia twice, New Zealand, Fiji and all over Europe in the past.) Throughout all these awesome journeys, I used WordPress.com to upload pictures and videos so parents and friends can live vicariously through our travels.

I hope that is has not already been asked in the forums before, so here goes. Since I use my phone and iPad to take pictures, I just email them to the blog via the ‘special’ email address I was given. and viola! Now, my question is – can other people use the ‘special’ email address too so that they can upload pictures to the website as well or will it just work with my email address?

    Many thanks for your help.

    Happy Monday!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Anybody can use the address – there is NO checking or filtering – so be very careful who you give the address to – or you may have some rude surprises

    Good morning Auxclass,

Many thanks for your answer. I would only give it to the other two adults in the group and I trust them 100%.

    Thank you again friend.

    Have a great Monday!

You be welcome & good luck

Thank you again. I look forward to the trip this summer. Even though I’ve been to Europe 5 times before, each with different students – I love seeing the sites through fresh eyes again. It’s like I am reliving my first time again all over!

    Woot! Woot!

It would be less of a security risk if you simply made them Editors and created a Flickr group and used the Post To WordPress option at Flickr. Even the students could upload to the Flickr group, and you could decide to put those pictures in the blog or not..

Once you enable them to post by email, you are vulnerable to the greatest risk that each of them decides to take with their email, and since you’ve no way of knowing how secure their email accounts are, it’s a blind risk. They may be trustworthy, but they may also have the email password 123456789. In that case, your blog is a sitting duck for spammers.

    Good day raincoaster!

Many thanks for your input. I will look into this as it sounds like a lot more fun. Is using Flickr easy with WP? Thank you!

    Happy Monday!

Yes, using Flickr is easy. If you have more than 200 images, and I’m sure you will soon, you need a premium account but it’s $24 a year I think, and in your position you should be able to either expense it or deduct it. Everyone can upload their images to their own free Flickr account and tag them so that they automatically go in the Flickr group. There’s more information over at Flickr.

    Good day raincoaster again!

I will just have to look into this idea as it seems like a lot more fun and easier. And for $24, too. I wonder if they allow video uploads as well?

    Happy Monday!

Yes, they do, although for that you might be better off at YouTube because of the broader exposure. If you are content with high quality and lower exposure, Flickr will be fine.

    Good morning again raincoaster!

Thanks for your valuable information. I don’t know if I will upload pictures or not – it was just a thought. Last summer I uploaded videos of the Great Barrier Reef and it took forever, but it was soooooo worth it! :)

    Best,
