Emailing visitors to my Blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have tried several times to email people who wanted me to contact them. I tried going through my Blog Comments screen. Please take a look at my Blog and tell me if I have to change my settings. For example, the Comment at the top of my Approved list is asking me to reply. Thank you. My Blog is https://wordpress.com/comments/approved/2healthyhabits.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I don’t understand what you are asking. If you want to find the email address of your commenters, click the info icon top-right on the comment at the link you gave above to find it. Then email them from your email account. You can’t email someone from WordPress.com.

However, almost all the comments on your site that you have approved – all those “This is really interesting”, “truly informative”, and “Excellent blog here” type comments, are spam. They are created by robots or by people who are paid to post comments on sites in the hope that site owners will visit the links they include where invariably fraudsters are waiting to scam you.

Real comments will always say something about the actual post you’ve written, and won’t link back to all kinds of dodgy sites.

Please do not approve comments that appear in the Spam view – those comments are going to spam for a reason, and they are not genuine comments. I strongly recommend you go through all the comments you’ve approved, and anything that you had approved from the spam queue you mark as spam again.

    Hi kokkieh,

You said, ” If you want to find the email address of your commenters, click the info icon top-right on the comment at the link you gave above to find it. Then email them from your email account. ”

My issue is that in the past I did what you said but the email does not get through. Is there a setting in WordPress that may need to be changed?

Hi, Why do people set up robots to send Spam comments to Blogs? What is the benefit to these people?

  • My issue is that in the past I did what you said but the email does not get through.

We cannot help with that, as we are not your email provider. But most likely the email addresses for these “commenters” are fake, and just added by the spam bots so that the comment can be posted.

Why do people set up robots to send Spam comments to Blogs? What is the benefit to these people?

Site owners click on the website links for these spam comments, and so the spammers get traffic to their sites. Many of these sites also try to install malware on your computer, or those sites try to scam you. That is why we have automatic spam filters on WordPress.com – to protect you against comments like that. But that protection is useless if you overrule the spam filters and approve comments like these.

    Hi,

I went through all my Comments and deleted ones that seem to come from Robots. Thank you for telling me about that.

I have some really heart felt thank you Comments from people but please note that all my Comments came through the Spam folder. I have the Free version since it covers all my needs. Am I to assume that genuine Comments will come to me in another way other than Spam. The only folder I see is Pending, is that way they should come to me?

I appreciate any help you can send me.

Then those are all spam. Including the thank yous. They seem heartfelt, yes, but they’re spam – they’re completely vague and would work as a comment on any post on any site. Real comments are always specific, and would say something about the actual post they’re commenting on.

Am I to assume that genuine Comments will come to me in another way other than Spam. The only folder I see is Pending, is that way they should come to me?

Correct. If you have comment moderation active on your site, real comments will go to Pending, and you will get a notification that they’re waiting for approval. Then you can approve them so they will appear on your site. You can completely ignore anything that goes to the spam folder.
