Emails to Subscribers

  Hi! I recently made all of my blog posts “private” to make some updates to them. I am now in the process of changing them to “password protected”, and I changed a hand full of them last night, and each one that I updated from private to password protected by hitting “publish”, an email was sent to all of my subscribers. Is there a better way to change my blogs from private to public or password protected without notifying all of my subscribers (because they are actually old blogs). Is there a way to turn off the email notifications temporarily?
