embarrassing error for valid page links

Hi,
I’ve added a number of new pages to alifesingular.com today. All but the links under “Author” work fine, but these four all give the “somewhat embarrassing” error, even though they show up via Search.
I’ve tried using the permalink and by choosing the page, but both result in the same error.
Please let me know how I can get these links working.

Sorry for the trouble! The issue with those four pages is that they are child pages of your “Author” page. That makes the link for each of those pages start with http://alifesingular.com/author/ which is a bit special on WordPress.com sites.
That link is reserved for authors on your site, like this:
http://alifesingular.com/author/lpestell/
It shows all of the posts that author has published on the site. Other pages can’t be set up at links like that because they are reserved just for authors.
To fix it, you can change the permalink for your “Author” page. For example, you can change the link so it goes to http://alifesingular.com/about-the-author/ or http://alifesingular.com/about/ or any other link you’d like. (The title of the page can still be “Author” as long as the link is different.)
That will make the links to those other pages started working for you. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

That’s great – thanks! I thought it was peculiar that all the other links worked fine. It’s a very logical explanation.
Perhaps it’s worth including this in the help somewhere so that people realise what they’ve done quickly and don’t waste so much energy trying to solve a problem they can’t solve!
