How to embed youtube video on a post:
I have pasted the URL on to the blog post in visuals, but it doesn’t work. I’ve done it many times successfully, so what is the problem? Here is the post where I tried to do it…
Thanks so much!

When I visited your page that you linked to I was able to successfully view the YouTube video. I don’t currently see any problems with what you did.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Have a wonderful day!

Thanks, guys. I tried to unlink, etc, but still cannot see the actual video on my post. I just tried to look at it on my phone and all I can see is the URL, not the video.
It’s a mystery to me that you can see it on the blog-post itself… what gives??
-
Where exactly are you at that you’re trying to click the link to view the YouTube video? Are you in the Preview Post screen, edit post screen, etc? If we knew this maybe we could pinpoint the problem. Also, are you logged in when you are trying to view the video?
-
I was in the preview and also on the published post. Yes, I was/am logged in. This always worked in the past….?

@brendajoy
Please try using the youtube shortcode

It worked!! Thank you so much.
I wonder why it worked before… the mystery of life.
Have a great day!

I am so sorry! I feel so silly!
I thought you were intending to just have a clickable link on your page that took you to YouTube’s website! I now understand that you want the actual video to appear on the post.
@timethief hit it on the head.
Sorry for the confusion!
If you need any more help check out this support doc.

@jsase5
Yes I hit it one the head in my very first answer at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/embed-a-youtube-video-on-a-blog-post?replies=10#post-2480162 lol :D -
In your post edit page, your YouTube link was most likely hyperlinked when you pasted it into your post. Make sure the URL is not hyperlinked in the post editor. WordPress recognizes the YouTube URL and automatically embeds the player into your post.
Sorry again for the confusion! Have a great day!

You did nail it, timethief, but I didn’t try the shortcode, my bad. Thanks to both of you and enjoy the day, knowing you have done a good deed.
-
This has been fun. :D We were a three blogger gong show. What a way to start the day, eh?

You can type faster than me and you know waaaayyyyyy more than I do at this point! I’m coming for your ninja status though! Watch out! ;)
Let’s do it again! Ready, set, go!

I have answered questions here for over 9 years. I began when there was a single support Staff member and no support docs at all. That is why I have a collection of hundreds of copy and paste answers on my computer that keep updated. I answer the most repetitious questions day in and day out while multitasking from my business, and I leave problem solving threads for eager beavers who are Staff wannbes. If we had a race when it comes to answering the easy questions in threads here I would probably win, so my kind advice is: give it up grasshoppper. ;) -
Wow! I was still in junior high nine years ago! I admire your willingness to help others out of the kindness of your heart.
Touché you seasoned veteran! Until next time!: )
