Embed codes stopped working
-
Embed codes for Spotify playlists have stopped working.
When I insert the embed code:
https://open.spotify.com/embed/user/dforderivative/playlist/4bZdqZGRswKkbS8xgOs2ud
It is converted to:
https://open.spotify.com/embed/user/dforderivative/playlist/4bZdqZGRswKkbS8xgOs2ud
But that’s it. It’s not a hyperlink, just a line of text. It makes no difference if I use the visual or html editor, the same thing happens. It doesn’t matter if I use that playlist or a different one.
If I try to embed a playlist that is already successfully published on an older blog page, that does the same thing.
If I copy the embed link from a playlist that is on an older page that is successfully published and paste that into a page now, the same thing happens.
Interestingly, if I use the old post editor rather than the new one, it works to begin with. Paste the code into the html editor, switch to visual, and it’s fine. BUT then if I save or publish the page, the playlist disappears and is replaced by the line of code.
I did some Googling and it looks like people are complaining on the Soundcloud forums of the same thing happening with Soundcloud embeds, so I’m pretty sure the problem is a) with WordPress.com and b) a relatively recent introduction. The last post I published that has a successfully embedded playlist is June 4th, so the issue must have been introduced since then.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please post a link or links to where you are seeing only a link and let us know what browser you are using to view them.

Here’s a brand new post:
https://thesegoto11.blog/2017/06/25/love-poison/I’m using Chrome Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit) but it also happens in IE11 V11.413 and Edge 40.15063.

<iframe> is not supported on WordPress.com hosted sites.

@akumarjain is correct. While some embed iframes can be used on WordPressdotcom because, on saving, they are converted to a format that is supported, the way to embed from Spotify uses oembed.
Here’s the support guide for Spotify that explains that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/spotify/
If the oembed method isn’t working, please try the shortcode method.
Make sure that the link in the oembed/shortcode is plain text and on its own line. If it appears as a link, use the unlink button to remove the link.
If you are still experiencing an issue with this after trying the above, please return to this forum thread and add the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section of the forum thread sidebar to receive Staff assistance.

Did you try by just using the Spotify URL i.e. https://open.spotify.com/embed/user/dforderivative/playlist/4bZdqZGRswKkbS8xgOs2ud
Check this guide on inserting Spotify links.

Sorry, @justjennifer didn’t see that you already posted the link to Spotify guide page here.

Well, as I mentioned this worked for me on my previous 39 blog posts. I’m not embedding an iframe because WordPress converts it to a shortcode itself. I have no say in the matter. I cannot post an iframe if I want to.
The same thing happens when I post using the shortcode directly rather than let WordPress convert it. As mentioned, this approach worked as recently as June 4th. You can see from the example post I created today that WordPress has converted what I have posted into a shortcode, and that isn’t working. I have checked the guidance; the shortcode does not appear as a hyperlink in my post.

I created a test post on a test blog using your Spotify link https://ajaywptest.wordpress.com/2017/06/25/spotify-test/
I used following code (in HTML mode):
[spotify https://open.spotify.com/user/dforderivative/playlist/4bZdqZGRswKkbS8xgOs2ud] -
Maybe you can explain what I am doing wrong then.
1. I go into Spotify.
2. I copy the shortcode.
3. I paste that into WordPress.
4. It doesn’t work. -

Probably I identified the issue. You are trying the embed code:
https://open.spotify.com/embed/user/dforderivative/playlist/4bZdqZGRswKkbS8xgOs2udI tried the link:
https://open.spotify.com/user/dforderivative/playlist/4bZdqZGRswKkbS8xgOs2ud -
Howdy –
winterdarrenm can you tell me if you’ve been trying to add this from the visual or the html/text editor screen?
