Embed Problems

Hi Rootjosh,
I don’t know if this will help, but here is the URL of one of my posts will a successful video insertion using the method I described:

Interesting.
So, going forward, I think you will be best served by sticking to this format:
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnaEdO8AHVk&w=420&h=315]No embed tags and no extra spaces. I’m not sure why things have switched between working and not working for you with the other embed versions. But I know that the format above is our most current version and will work.

Thanks Rootjosh, I’ll give it a try. I presume from what you have written that I just add {youtube=https:// to the URL. Is that correct?
-
Just make sure it is:
[youtube=https://URLHERE]There is a big difference between { and [ in this situation.

Rootjosh you are a genius! I tried your suggestion and it works fine.
If you want to check it out have a look at:

I managed to load all the videos I needed without a problem.
Thanks Rootjosh for your valuable input.

Hi Rootjosh,
Yup, it’s me again! I put up videos the way you suggested and have had no troubles since you solved the problem, but strangely, over the past few days I must use the ‘TEXT’ menu instead of the ‘VISUAL’ page because they will not load otherwise.
Previously I could add them on the ‘VISUAL’ page and it was fine.
When I leave a space for the link I get some script come up on the ‘Text’ page (bsc something or other) that I must remove before adding the link.
Has WordPress changed the criteria for posting videos or do I have another problem?
Your expert input would be invaluable.
Many Thanks.

Hi Rootjosh,
Have you managed to make any progress with this problem?

I have made a test draft on your blog using the code I posted above (pasting it into the “visual” editor as instructed in the youtube document I posted above as well), and I had no issues:

Please try to replicate the issue or leave me a link to a draft post where embedding is not working correctly.

Hi Rootjosh,
I think we have something strange here. It’s not too much of a problem so long as I can at least get the videos up using the ‘Text’ link.
Let me go through what I am doing to get the videos loaded, perhaps it will help.
First I select where the clip should go in ‘Visual’ Mode, and make a space for the code. I then go to the clip and while it is playing I highlight and copy the URL Code.
I go back to the blog and attempt to paste it in the space I made. At this point the space closes and nothing else happens.
Here I go to the ‘Text’ Menu and find the letters are in the space I made which still exists.
I erase them and paste in the clip code. I add the ] symbol at the end and [youtube=https:// in front of the code.
I then go back to the ‘Visual’ Page and correct the text size and De-link the code.
After all that everything is fine – so far.
I have been adding clips to blogs ever since you told me the correct procedure with no problem, but then a few weeks ago I could no longer make the changes on the ‘Visual’ page but had to do it using the ‘Text’ menu.
It all seems very strange to me but I hope you can make head or tail of it.
Anyway, I wish you luck and will wait for you to get back to me.
Keep smiling!

Roy. -
In the visual mode, paste this in:
[youtube=https://URLHERE]
as an example:
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnaEdO8AHVk&w=420&h=315]
You should not have to go to the text mode at all.

Yes I understand Rootjosh, and that is exactly what I was doing before I got this problem, and am still doing but first I must put in the URL.
Right now the ‘Visual’ page will not even accept the Youtube URL as I mentioned in my last message. All that happens is the gap I left for the URL disappears as the following text lifts one line and closes the gap.
Maybe it might help if I put the preface bit [youtube=https:// in first and then paste in the URL. I will try it out and see what happens.
You will see in the last entry how i have been doing it when everything worked properly.
Thanks for your swift reply – glad to see you are on top of things!

Hi Rootjosh,
I just tried putting the pre-text [youtube=https:// in first, but when I try to add the Youtube URL after it, it does nothing, the line stays blank after the initial insert. Next I had to go to Text to insert and finish it off.

The next time that happens, can you save the post as a draft for me to look at and NOT go fix it anywhere? That way I can take a look at what you are doing.

Hi Rootjosh,
I don’t know if you have managed to do something in the background, but the last two posts I have put up went perfectly without the nagging problem.
Anyway, so far so good! I will keep monitoring it and let you know if it happens again. Thanks for your kind attention and lets hope it stays good now. Keep smiling!
