embed video from a website that is not youtube or vimeo

  I’d like to embed a video from a local news website into a blog post, but when i insert the url or embed code their site provides into my post, the most i get is a hyperlink and not the actual video. The news video has sharing buttons for every type of social media imaginable, including WP, but again that only gives me a hyperlink. Is there a way to embed videos from websites that aren’t white-listed like youtube and vimeo?
