Embed video from another site

I would like to embed a video from a site that is not one of the options listed in the video support section. Is this possible? Here is the link to the video i would like to embed.

If the source makes embed code available, you can embed it using the Vodpod button available from http://vodpod.com

I’m trying to embed a video from SciFiWire.com — it shows up as a video when I preview in my dashboard, but when I publish the post and look at it, it’s blank. There isn’t even a broken link, or anything.

Please read what raincoaster stated above and click the link she supplied. Please view thes list of are the videos that are supported without the use of vodpod in the support documentation here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/ You will need to use vodpod for the video in question as the software will keep stripping out the code. -
Oh, thanks — yeah, the support documentation is what I needed. I hope the template I’m using lets me add that widget.

Hi Staci
All wordpress.com blogs are widget equipped s you ought to be able to use it. Also the Depo Masthead theme has wide sidebars so that’s a plus. Please let us know how you make out. -
I’ve created an account with Vodpod… I’m just not getting it? I’m trying to post a video to my wordpress… I just simply don’t get it? Nothing says, link to wordpress or grab button or whatever?
At the risk of beeing anoying…
…anyone?

hello Charles,
Here’s the support documentation entry for you > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/vodpod-videos-widget/ -
I haven’t had any luck either. It keeps telling me to add to favorites (vodpod side) and I do, but even after it’s in there it keeps saying “add to favorites”. It’s very confusing. They do have that tutorial page for embedding video
http://blog.vodpod.com/2007/09/07/posting-videos-to-wordpresscom-with-the-post-to-wordpress-button/
But I can’t figure out if that’s to post a blog with only a video, or if I have put a bunch of text, pictures, the video, and then keep on writing text.
Also, I did successfully post the widget in my sidebar, but it was just a generic vodpod widget showing random videos. Can’t figure out how to get one that only shows MY videos.
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much for your help (and patience :)

@Staci
I’m afraid I can’t help as I have no experience using vodpod. I also found that the FAQs on that blog produced a 404 (page not found). Aarraggghh! However, do not despair as other Volunteers do have experience with it and Staff do monitor these forum threads. I expect someone will chime in and help you soon.

Whew! OK, I got it to work. The “Post to WordPress” button is in my visible favorites toolbar and I clicked on it when I was on the scifi page i wanted to grab video from. It wouldn’t just grab the embed code on its own, so I had to do it manually. No big deal.
Then it created a blog with only the video. Not what I’d want, because I like to craft stories around my videos and have pictures, etc., BUT– fortunately, I was able to just open my dashboard, go to that newly created blog in HTML and copy their code, erase that blog, and then add the video to another existing blog where I actually wanted the video in the first place. It plays and everything, just fine. This is perfect.
Now, I need to figure out how to add the widget for vodpod to show **my** videos only.
:)

That’s fab. :) I’m so glad you returned to share what you did. When you solve the last part please post again as whatever you can share is bound to help another blogger in the future.
