Embedded codes not working.

  • Unknown's avatar

I realised if I use an embedded code from YouTube, for example, it doesn’t work. But if I “add media” and just post the Url, it’s fine.

However, I am trying to add an embeddable forum to my blog (aupairinfobrasil.com) and I’ve tried two different ones but all it does is show the code on the page! (which I’ve made private so you can’t access it but that’s it, blank page, with a code as a post).

Why are embedded codes not working anymore? I can’t remember one, but the other uses javascript.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Liv!

I am trying to add an embeddable forum to my blog (aupairinfobrasil.com) and I’ve tried two different ones but all it does is show the code on the page!

I’m afraid you cannot embed a forum into your WordPress.com site. However, this article does contain three possible solutions which might suit you:

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions, or if I can assist with your YouTube embeds. If you do want help with video, please do send me a link to the video in question, and the post or page on which you want the video added.

    Thanks so much!

  • What is the embed code that you trying to insert? You can post it here by clicking the “code” button, pasting the code, and clicking the code button again.

  • Woot! Competing answers!

In all likelihood, thatrobyn is correct. I do not know of any forum that is embedable on WordPress.com. I asked for the code just to see if this happened to be a new embed that worked.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your help!

I may go with one of these options, Robyn and maybe just create another mini-site with this Twitter-like theme or maybe just use an external forum host and just direct people there when they click on the link on my blog.

    Josh, the code:

    <script type="text/javascript" wp_oembed_add_provider (src="http://qn0kuuassc.embed.talkiforum.com/embed/1.js)"></script><div style="font-size:80%; text-align:center;" id="qn0kuuassct4lk1prm0">get your own <a href="http://talkiforum.com?utm_source=install&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=get_your_own">embeddable forum</a> with Talki</div>

Ah, Robyn, I’m fine with videos but thanks!! Really appreciate everyone who uses some of their time to help semi- “code-illiterate” folks like me!

Oh wait! There is something that I wanted to do but I don’t think it’s possible, but let’s give it a go…

I wanted to have the “Forum” on my menu bar, but things only appear on there if it’s a new page I created, no?! Is it at all possible to have the “forum” tab linked to the external site?

  • I’m sorry, but as we suspected, that embed code will not work because we do not allow certain tags on WordPress.com for security reasons, including JavaScript, Flash, iframe, form, and input tags. These restrictions are in place to prevent any disruptions in service due to potentially malicious code.

You can read more about this here:

    Absolutely!

Log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard and go to Appearance–> Menus. Then click on “links” as shown in the screenshot:

That gives you an opportunity to create links to any page you would like.

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that.

I did it and thought “woohoo! Easy!” but it’s not showing and I can’t figure out why…there’s no option to make it private and it’s there on the menu list, but not on the website

  • What is the specific link that you have tried to add and are not seeing? Are you sure that you clicked “save menu” at the bottom after adding a new link?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yep, several times.

Did exactly what you said: added a tab to the menu as a link. Called it “FORUM” and placed it between the tabs “links” and “contact” and saved it.

It’s there on the menu list as “custom”.

Is it possible that maybe my theme doesn’t support that?

  • So, it looks like you were using the default theme menu, which was limiting you. I have switched the menu to be the custom one you have made. And now you should be seeing a ton of menu options on your navigation bar. I have added a “forums” link as a test, but you’ll need to go edit it as I just had it point to google (since I didn’t know your forum URL).

A-ha! The only thing is, now the menu tabs don’t have the drop down anymore…can I have the cake and eat it too or do I need to choose between the drop down and forum tab?

  • You will need to add them again. But you can absolutely do so.

    Have you see this page:

    Menus

Lots of good info there on menus.
